8 of the Quirkiest Airbnb properties in the UK

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

After one of our sellers recently listed a big, yellow American school bus they Airbnb in the UK, it got us thinking about the quirky and unusual side of Airbnb. Guests and travellers are always looking for unique experiences, and thankfully the Airbnb community in the UK has plenty of options to boot.

The most unique Airbnbs across the UK

Here's our pick of 8 which especially caught our intrigue. Surprise, surprise, they all attract a premium. So, could it be time for you to get creative as a short term let/Airbnb investor and stand out from the crowd?

airbnb in scotland like a hobbit home

Taste a slither of middle earth up in Morway, Scotland at the magical Hideaway Under The Stars. This hobbit style holiday home was built lovingly by its owners using literally the local nature and earth around them. After a painstaking build, the authentic wood, straw and stone home has become a huge hit for adventurous travellers.

It also shows what can be done by investing in land and then building your dream property on it.

airbnb in suffolk for glamping

This extraordinary glamping experience combines the charm of caravan life with the essence of camping, creating a magical haven straight out of a child's imagination. Nestled on a charming farm in sleepy Suffolk, these unique cow homes accommodate up to four guests and exude a cozy rustic ambiance inside.

airbnb in nottinghamshire on a farm

We thought we'd keep it animal related for this next one, too. In rural Nottingamshire, you can stay with Basil the horse in his 60 acre estate and manor house. There's lots of other residents at this animal farm - Highland cows, Hebridean sheep, pigs and cockerels - that are sure to keep you entertained during your visit.

We'll leave with you the instructions on the host's Airbnb page, which given its impeccable rating on the platform has thankfully not got unnoticed: Please be aware there is a horse next door and therefore potential for noise and smell.

airbnb in pembrokeshire like a yurt

The staycation's take on the plains of Mongolia can be found in this charming hamlet in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Perfect for a romantic getaway, this camping treat offers a plush king-sized bed, a star-gazing ceiling lantern for a magical night under the stars, and a cozy log-burning stove for chilly evenings.

Just a stone's throw away from the breathtaking coastline, you'll have your own cook shack, private allocated shower and WC, making it an idyllic haven to disconnect from the city and immerse yourself in nature's embrace. And if yurts are your thing, the south of Wales has lots of other similar properties that could suit too.

pink house airbnb in essex

Only in Essex would we find the aptly named, Pink House. This extraordinary Airbnb is the perfect venue for a memorable hen party, accommodating up to 16+ people. Step into a realm of unicorns and flamingos, where every corner unveils a delightful art installation.

And beyond the kitsch decor, indulge in the luxury of a hot tub, enjoy friendly competition with a pool table, and revel in ample social spaces that promise endless entertainment and lots of content for social media. Check out Eaton House Studio for more information.

famous airbnb in liverpool inspired by The Beatles

Travellers from all over the world are flocking to this Beatles & Liverpool culture inspired home. With large murals and vintage photos dedicated to your favourite Fab 4, this has become a popular stop in the city when making a trip to enjoy a few nights at the Cavern Club.

The apartment has an extra nice touch playing homage to the heritage of the famous port city with memorabilia associated to its rich maritime history and, of course, the football culture that transcends the Mersey to the rest of the world. Head to Flatzy to see availability this summer.

magical airbnb in scottish highlands

This one is particularly random but more reason to love it, and another example of beautiful UK design. And once more, we go to Scotland to find this quirky Airbnb - a sustainable, intergalactic style airship with big glass framed vistas of the highlands, lochs and even the Isle of Mull.

This could be a winter retreat of dreams - snuggle up inside with a coffee while watching the stars across the Sound of Mull.

historic castle airbnb in scotland

Because no list of unique Airbnbs in the UK would be complete without a castle, right? The chamber of Neidpath Castle near the picturesque village of Peebles in the Scottish Borders is the former sleeping quarter of only one Mary, Queen of Scots. Can you sleep with a better slice of british history than that?

It was built in the 12th century and it's remarkable how many of the original features lay intact. That said, the interior furnishings are everything you'd expect from a modern high quality stay, and rated 4.95* on Airbnb accordingly.

There you have it - a little taste of the extraordinary Airbnb and holiday homes the British isles have to offer. And this really is just a snapshot. How can you get creative with your properties?
